MESSAGE FROM H.E. THE AMBASSADOR OF THE REPUBLIC OF ANGOLA IN SINGAPORE

Welcome to the Website of the Embassy of the Republic of Angola in Singapore (headquarters) Australia, Brunei, East Timor, Fiji, Indonesia, Kiribati, Marshall Island, Nauru, New Zealand, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Salomon Island, Samoa, Tonga and Tuvalu.

With the running of the Embassy’s website, we would like to make available a new communication platform for all people who are interested in discovering more business opportunities in our country and attract users gathering for information on Angola.

We want it to be a dynamic virtual hub for current and accurate data on Angola reaching Angolan Citizens and those from the countries under the jurisdiction of the Diplomatic Mission, interested in visiting the Republic of Angola. For this purpose, our website will be available in English, Portuguese and French.

More so, it was a great pleasure to witness on August 17, the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between Angola’s Private Investment and Export Promotion Agency (AIPEX) and Singapore Cooperation Enterprise of the Republic of Singapore.

This agreement, a stabiliser of Singapore investments overseas, offers an excellent opportunity to enhance the institutional, economic and business cooperation between our countries.

This year we celebrated 21 years of the establishment of diplomatic relationships between the Republic of Angola and the Republic of Singapore. It was also in the early 2000s and from the nation of Singapore that SONANGOL.EP – Angola National Society of Fuel (Angola’s State Oil Company) began the commercialisation operations of Angola’s crude oil to the Asian countries.

Singapore is currently one of fastest growing economies in terms of comparison with the Association of South-East Asian Nations (ASEAN) and of the world, and it is the favourite destination for foreign investors. Angola has the privilege of being a friendly country and a strategic partner to Singapore.

However, in the last years, the cooperation between our countries has not recorded major advances; hence with the signature of this important legal instrument we have laid the foundations to intensify our cooperation.

During the visit to Singapore of an Angolan Delegation headed by His Excellency Manuel Domingos Augusto, former Minister of External Relations in 2018, and the visit of a Singapore business mission to Angola in 2015, in an initiative headed by the then Deputy-Minister of Foreign Affairs, Masagos Zulkifli, it was reaffirmed the desire of both countries to explore more opportunities for cooperation and reinforcement of the multifaceted relations between both nations.

This Memorandum of Understanding for cooperation between AIPEX and Singapore Cooperation Enterprise, represents another milestone to the already existent bonds of friendship and cooperation between our countries. Therefore, is complementing the decision of Singapore Authorities to elect last year, the Republic of Angola as one of its strategic partners in Africa, a gesture that the Angolan authorities warmly welcomed and were greatly pleased, since it reinforces further our relations.

Cooperation with other nations under our jurisdiction is also being enforced. For example, a mining investment contract for the concession of “Chiri” diamonds in the Angolan province of Lunda Norte (north-east) was signed last October 2021, in Lisbon, by representatives of the Endiama (Angola) and the Anglo-Australian firm Rio Tinto.

According to the Presidential Decree No. 298/18 of December 5, the exploration area that was the object of the agreements reached in the various rounds of negotiations carried out with Rio Tinto, since April 2019, has an extension of 108 km², with an operating period of 35 years. The Mining investment document foresees, at an initial stage, shares participation of 75% for Rio Tinto Angola and 25% for Endiama E.P. as well as the constitution of a joint venture. The contract, which will last for five years, also provides for the possibility of the Angolan party increasing its stake to 49%. All these are signs of the strengthening of our bilateral relations with our friends and business partners in Southeast Asia.

The Angolan community that resides in Singapore and in the countries under our jurisdiction, deserve our special attention. Its members can find general information on their country here and also other that is specifically aimed at them, with emphasis on the consular and Communities assistance area.

Through this, we intend to introduce a new Angola and ongoing projects, as well as updating it periodically on the political, economic and social reality of our Nation.

Thus, we have made available services that range from general information on Angola, highlighting aspects such as tourism or how best to invest in Angola, as well as presenting a wide range of legislation, particularly the New Private Investment Law of 2021 (Law 10/21, of April 22).

I hope this website is useful to you.
